Staff Report
Week one on the hardwood was a mixed bag for Hoosier
Heritage Conference teams. It certainly did not start out well for the league’s
ranked squads. Pendleton Heights was upset at New Castle on Tuesday evening by
a count of 48-44. On Friday, highly regarded Mt. Vernon fell to Connersville
37-26. The moral of that story is you didn’t want to be poor Muncie Central.
The Bearcats were the next foe up for Pendleton Heights and they paid the price
for the Arabians being in a foul mood. Pendleton rode away with a 78-39
triumph. Saturday evening marked the debut of Rushville and the Lady Lions did
not disappoint. They rumbled over Col8mbus East 58-39.
The happiest group in the conference were the Cougars of
Greenfield-Central. They opened the season Friday night by demolishing
Cambridge City 75-17 and then outlasted Franklin in overtime Saturday 47-44.
They were joined in the overwhelming victory category by Delta who manhandled
Elwood 63-11 Saturday night. New Palestine was the last of the HHC schools to
post a decision and it was not one they liked. The Dragons fell to Whiteland
41-34.
